National Fitness Day: 5 Minutes With Kent Alexis-Roye and Danielle Daisy Reeve

This year, National Fitness Day falls on September 26th 2018. To celebrate, we caught up with personal trainers Kent and Danielle from MSP Fitness, Norwich, to find out what staying active means to them.

Here’s their story.

What first got you into fitness?

I'd always been the fat kid, fat teen and funnily enough, the fat adult. But in 2013, I hit an all-time low. After playing with my son in the park, I realised that I was unable to keep up and felt slight chest pains.

After seeing a doctor and weighing in at a huge 23 stone, I knew I had to change something or I may not be around to see my son grow up.

After years of training and hard work, countless hours of studying to become a personal trainer and an advanced sports nutritionist, I'm in a much better place and can now say I'm the fittest, healthiest and happiest I've ever been.

I used to be very insecure. I spent my younger years being chubby and was picked on in school. So naturally, I compared myself to other girls far too much and never thought I was good enough.

Then, as I got older, I got more interested in the gym. I ended up training with Kent who helped to break my lack of confidence and he got me fitter and stronger.

I love my job. Being a personal trainer is the most rewarding career, being a part of people's personal journeys and seeing them become more and more confident and healthier is truly satisfying.

What made you set up your own studio?

We’d worked as personal trainers for another company but wanted to set up our own business, so we could do things our way.

It was the best decision we ever made. We programme our own training and work hard to build a community at our gym, so people feel welcome and special.

We’ve just turned one!

Why is working out in a class setting beneficial?

Classes really help to build friendships, which makes you more motivated to attend.

What advice would you give to someone looking to get fit who has never really exercised before?

It’s really about finding something that interests you and gets you moving. For example, walking the dog, power walking, running and then moving up to doing your first class.

What’s your favourite piece of Mirafit kit?

For me I think the Mirafit M1 Multi Gym Lat Pull Down Machine. We don’t have machines in our gym but it’s nice to have one, so you can change the dynamic of your workout.

I love the ankle weights because they can be used for so many different exercises. They are so versatile and easy to store, I really like them.
